I confess I don't really read comics. The majority of my reading time is spent on word-filled books. Just about the only comics I have ever read and enjoyed are Calvin & Hobbes and The Adventures of Tintin. I really like Calvin & Hobbes because unlike the many mediocre comic strips that have been published, Calvin & Hobbes doesn't waste the reader's time with characters making puns and telling jokes that aren't really funny and leaving the reader with the impression that they have been cheated of their time and intelligence. I am not saying all comic strips are like this, but many of the ones that I've glanced through in newspapers have been like that.
Besides the fact that there are many times when I can identify with Calvin & Hobbes, what makes the series really good is its ability to raise many questions for thought on life and the world, while at the same time, it also makes you laugh, as well as invoke emotions that you would never expect to have from reading a comic strip.
Anyway, I have pasted here one of my favorite Calvin & Hobbes stories that consist of a couple of days' worth of strips. It's a really touching story, and with the help of Calvin, asks many of the questions I have wondered myself.
